Hey, you. Are you debating whether to destroy something with your bare hands or curl up on the couch for a decade or two?
This book will solve all of your problems. (Sheesh, that's aiming a bit high.)This book is a cup of hot coffee, a ginormous bar of chocolate, or the magical fairy that comes over and does your dishes while you lie in the fetal position clutching a fluffy pillow.
Sometimes when life falls apart the only acceptable response is hysterical laughter. When things get so far gone, so spectacularly a world away from any plans you made or dreams you dreamed, you feel it bubbling up inside of you and you scream, "It's not fair!" And it isn't. Fair is an illusion, and life is weird.
This book will help you laugh at life's absurd backhands. This book is an empathetic groan of our collective unfairnesses. You might want to throw it across the room, and you might want to hug it like your new best friend. This book is about us sitting down together in our shared mess, taking a deep breath, gripping hands, looking the hard stuff in its beady little eyeballs, and bahahahaaing at it.
Life's not fair, but we can learn to love this life we didn't choose.

This book is balm to the soul for anyone who has experienced loss, pain or just muttered the words "it's not fair" under their breath. Melanie Dale reaches out with a hearty hug and a "me too" in this book. You don't have to battle infertility, loss, depression, mental illnesses, challenging parenting situations, and life's mishaps alone, and this book shows you how to mourn and choose joy all in the same breath (or at least subsequent ones). I'm going to be doing a book club with my "mom" friends this fall and I can't wait for the discussion that will spark and the relationships that we will strengthen because of vulnerability and empathy cultivated towards one another. Thank you, Melanie Dale, for talking about the things that are hard to talk about - breaking the ice for all of us thinking the same things so that we can just jump right in.Product details

It Not Fair Learning to Love the Life You Didn't Choose (Audible Audio Edition) Melanie Dale christianaudiocom Books Reviews
She completely gets me! This book is like the best friend that you so desperately need in a time period of your life when none of your other friends/family get it. When everyone else is saying what’s the big deal or we don’t have that problem....and you want to slug them for their insensitivity....she’ll sympathize and be real with you.
I love the way Melanie weaves her humor into her writing...and makes a hard subject so much easier. I've honestly never read a "self-help" or that kind of book cover to cover before. But yesterday, UPS dropped it off, and I sat down and read it without stopping. It's easy to read, keeps you engaged, and somehow touches you without you even realizing it has. If you've ever uttered the words "It's not fair!", this is an amazing book to read.
This book got me through infertility treatments. I'm a reader naturally, but I read the entire thing in 3 days. Her appropriate use of humor is so engaging, and you feel very validated reading this. There's definitely some religion references but it's not so heavy that someone who is not religious couldn't benefit from it.
I purchased this book because I love reading Melanie Dale's blog, and I really liked her first book, Women Are Scary. However, I'm not exactly the target audience for this book, as I haven't dealt with mountains of shattered dreams or unforeseen difficulties... yet. I read it partly to know more about how I can support those who have.
Melanie writes very candidly and with wit, much like she is hanging out with you in your living room or on the back porch. You could read the book all at once, but I'd recommend taking it in smaller bites, giving yourself time to digest each chunk before diving in for more, because it's a book about dealing with grief.
After hearing from our doctor that we had been through our infertility treatment options, I was devistated. I was looking for a book on how to cope and wanting to feel like I wasn't alone. This book was the most amazing thing that came into my life. For the next few days I couldn't put it down. Melanie's humor lifted my spirits and brought back joy that I had lost. Her faith in God and amazing scriptures really restored so much faith that I had been to angry to remember. Although no two families journey through infertility is the same, Melanie really made me feel like I had a friend who understood.
As someone who suffered through infertility and watched my precious only child do the same, I can so relate. Only someone who has "walked a mile in those shoes" can totally understand how devastating it can be. Two adopted boys later and after lots of prayer, gnashing of teeth and fist waving I now have two beautiful granddaughters. Yes, life isn't fair. But God in his infinite mercy knows just what we need and when we need it. I am so happy He sent this book to me! A must read for all women
This book is just beautiful. The author shares both personal and friends' sprites of infertility, failed marriage, unexpected death and loss...it's an honest look at how life just doesn't look the way we expect and what we can do/be if we are the one in pain and how we can help/be when we see people in pain. She's funny, snarky and points back to Jesus over and over. It's an emotional but beautiful read. Highly recommend.
